Description Family Asteraceae Originating from N. America Typical of the prairie style, planted in drifts under open sunny skies, the smouldering dark orangey red blooms have a fantastic protruding central dome of disc florets, forming a dark, brooding purple coloured cone of tightly packed buds, until they begin to open from the bottom upwards, revealing the inner golden yellow colour of the florets. This firework-like display crowns the outer ring of broad petals that often curve elegantly downwards as the flower matures, making an arresting collar of swept back colour. Easy to grow in any free draining soil in full sun. Height and spread after 1 – 2 years 1m x 50cm.
